    Clinical Director (RN) – Medical/Surgical University of Chicago Medicine in Chicago, IL 


    We're hiring a Clinical Director (RN) – General Medicine for our Patient Care Services department with the University of Chicago Medicine in Chicago, IL.

    The Director leads and influences the work of those working under his/her direction to accomplish the mission, vision, and philosophy of the organization.


    This position calls for the Director to possess the ability to think in enterprise wide terms and have knowledge of complex adaptive systems to impart effective fiscal decisions, delivery of quality and safe care, effective human resource management, and leadership in change management initiatives for the departments under his/her supervision. The Director will develop a network of relationships with physician leaders and leaders of all departments in order to foster an environment of collaboration.  Through the practice of transformational and servant leadership, the Director will cultivate satisfaction for patients and staff.  


    The Director maintains standards of the practice of nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice. This position ensures quality, compassionate, culturally competent, effective and efficient patient care.

    Clinical Director (RN) – Medical/Surgical Education and Experience Requirements: 

    • Must hold a completed Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited academic body. A Master’s degree in Nursing is required or an advanced degree in a healthcare related field will be accepted in lieu of an MSN.
    • Must hold a minimum of 3 years of progressive management experience as well as a minimum of 7 years of overall clinical experience.  This experience to include at least one area of 24-7 operations with demonstration of leading groups to positive outcomes.
    • Experience working and/or leading in a Critical Care unit is preferred. 
    • Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a current and active RN license in the state of Illinois.
    • A Nurse leadership certification (in Medicine, Administration or Critical Care) is strongly preferred. Must sit for a leadership certification within 6 months of eligibility required.
    • Must practice AIDET Communication: Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You.
    • Must practice UCM Service Recovery Model Five A’s: Aware, Acknowledge, Apologize, Act and Amend.
    • Must practice the 10 - 5 Rule: Employees within 10 feet of a client/ colleague should acknowledge in a welcoming manner; within 5 feet- acknowledge with a nod or verbal greeting.
    • Must support the “No Pass Zone” protocol (stop and address any call light in your path)
    • The candidate needs to be present and focus on addressing one patient at a time giving your full attention to the task at hand.
    • Must exercise patience and empathy at all times (put yourself in other’s shoes).
    • Demonstrate professionalism at all times in Actions, Words, and Attire.
    • Acknowledge and greet everyone in a warm, welcoming manner.
