    The Information Services Department currently has an opportunity for a Network Engineer Senior to support and design and operations of the UCMC data networks (wired and wireless), enterprise network architecture, network technology evaluations, protocol analysis, configuration, research, complex trouble shooting and analysis.


    Job Summary


    In this role, the Network Engineer, Senior is responsible for the day to day support and design and operations of the UCMC data networks (wired and wireless), enterprise network architecture, network technology evaluations, protocol analysis, configuration, research, complex trouble shooting and analysis. In addition, a Network Engineer, Senior takes an active role in capacity planning, network monitoring, and technology mentoring.


    Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities 

    • Responsible for ensuring highly available movement of data through the networks that comprise the enterprise network system
    • Designs, develops and implements network solutions which serve the business needs of UCMC
    • Provides highly skilled technical assistance in network planning, engineering, and architecture
    • Develops technical standards, identifies and evaluates new products, and provides resolution for network problems
    • Identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance
    • Provides implementation and technology review and Network Infrastructure team
    • Interfaces with vendors to identify and purchase hardware and software
    • Studies vendor products to determine those which best meet company needs and assists in presentation of information to management result in purchase and installation of hardware, software, and modem equipment
    • Provides guidance and direction for less experienced Network Engineers
    • Evaluates new products/technologies to determine impact on existing system configurations
    • Evaluates and identifies opportunities for network performance and functionality improvements

    • BS or BA degree, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent education, training or work experience required
    • Advance degree helpful
    • Five (5 )or more years of current Network Engineering experience required
    • Strong knowledge on Routing Protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSFP, Multicast)
    • Strong knowledge on Cisco Switching Technology
    • Experience on  field deployment and configuration of network devices, must be hands-on
    • Experience on zero touch deployment, automation, and monitoring of network devices is a plus
    • Experience on Cisco Wireless Technology (deployment and support)
    • Experience on F5 LTM/GTM management 
    • Experience on Firewall Technologies (Cisco ASA or Palo Alto)
    • Experience performing network traffic and protocol analysis using standard industry tools (Wireshark, tcpdump)
    • Experience on working on networking tools (Solarwinds, Cisco Prime)
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision 
    • Minimal travel required to off site locations such as Darien, IL, South Chicago land locations and Indiana
