    Utilization Review Nurse (RN), the Risk, Patient Safety & Compliance department, Full Time Nights, University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL 

     

    We're hiring a Utilization Review Nurse for the Risk, Patient Safety, & Compliance department for a Full-Time, Nights shift for the University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL. Note: This position will be supporting our Emergency Medicine and Surgical units.

    As a Utilization Review Nurse, you will evaluate the admission process by using established criteria as mandated by hospital, departmental, JCAHO, government and third party payor policies/procedures. The Utilization Review Nurse reviews requests for admission for diagnosis and procedure(s) for inpatient type, as well as facilitate the communications between insurance companies, review agencies and physicians regarding inpatient pre-authorizations and admissions. 

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health field or business required.
    • RN with current license in the State of Illinois required.
    • Three years prior nursing experience in a hospital required with previous utilization review experience required.
    • Must have knowledge of governmental and accrediting agency requirements and knowledge of managed care, HMO’s and PPO’s.
    • Solid understanding of Peer Review Organization criteria and standards,  purpose and requirements needed; working knowledge of DRG payment system helpful.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills required.
    • Professional conduct in all situations including clinical department meetings is required.
    • PC experience helpful.
