    Data Quality Engineer, Data and Analytics Department, Full-time, Day Shift (5 x 8-hour shifts), University of Chicago Medicine, Hyde Park, Illinois

     

    We're hiring a Data Quality Engineer for the Data and Analytics department at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Hyde Park, Illinois!

     

    Under general direction, the Data Quality Engineer is accountable for all day-to-day operational activities related to data quality. The Engineer ensures adherence to departmental policies, project deadlines and overall goals. In this role, you will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the care continuum and act as a steward of data and data best practices. The ideal candidate has a full technical knowledge of the data sources and systems across the University of Chicago Medicine network. This position will report directly to the Director of Data Governance, Quality and Resource Management. 

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for turning data into insight that informs, identifies trends, answers questions and provides recommended action plans to subject matter experts
    • Utilizes technical data-quality reports and executes standard SQL queries to continuously monitor and troubleshoot data quality and data integrity problems
    • Facilitates brainstorming and data analysis sessions with key stakeholders designed to address insights found in their data
    • Interprets results using a variety of techniques from simple data aggregation to complex statistical analysis
    • Utilizes reports, or interviews data stewards, to identify and prioritize data quality and accuracy requirements, then work with technical staff for necessary data validation responses
    • Identifies and understands issues, problems and opportunities.
    • Compares data from different sources to draw conclusions and influence decision makers
    • Utilizes interpersonal skills when working with various customers and peers to accomplish goals. Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
    • Utilizes superior analytical skills with emphasis on computer database, spreadsheet, statistical program use and problem solving
    • Collaborates with subject matter experts and technical staff to meet data quality goals

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • BS degree, computer science or business, or the equivalent education, training or work experience; technical seminar and conference attendance helpful. Advanced degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience data quality and data governance related activities for major projects, multiple small projects or a department.
    • Excellent group leadership and facilitation skills. Ability to leverage, lead and direct a diverse team with various levels of skills. Experience in collaborating with technical team members. Ability to work in a matrix management environment.
    • Minimum 5 years directly applicable experience in building data quality practice in a health care organization
    • Experience in building and delivering training in data model and data architecture
    • Excellent SQL skills
    • Knowledge & experience of SDLC & other agile development methodologies.
    • Strong demonstrated knowledge of the systems development life cycle (requirements definition, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance).
    • Strong project management skills are required: development and management of detailed project plans, objectives, control methods, and coordination of project team efforts. Must be able to prioritize, organize, and assess work in order to meet deadlines. Must have issue tracking and resolution skills, and the ability and commitment to meet aggressive deadlines and to cope in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organization and time management skills are necessary.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and effective presentation skills. Ability to lead group discussions. Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
    • Creative, problem solver, effective decision maker who solicits advice appropriately and stands behind his/her convictions.
    • Ability to work with vendors to achieve desired results.
    • Ability to execute projects & build sense of urgency in team.
