    Assistant Patient Care Manager, Women's & Children's Care - Comer Children's

    Area: 381180 - Pediatrics - Care Center
    Shift: 40 hours per week (1.0) / Night shift, 10 hour shifts


    Comer 6 has 29 licensed beds for hematology, oncology, and stem cell transplant/immunosuppressed patients, and other medical or surgical patients; cardiac telemetry unit; heart station/echocardiograms; minor procedures room; palliative care suite.

    Job Summary:

    The Assistant Patient Care Manager (APCM) provides clinical and administrative leadership. In this role you are responsible for assisting in the management of the nursing and clinical support staff. The APCM is responsible for providing regulatory and quality oversight to the staff. This person works in conjunction with the Patient Care Manager to oversee the daily operations of the unit in a financially responsible and patient-centered care manner. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the mission, vision and values of The University of Chicago Medical Center Comer Children’s Hospital.



    Required Qualifications

    • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher, Master’s degree preferred.
    • Current Illinois RN license
    • Ability to effectively communicate
    • Demonstrates a working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among staff members, care center and sector leadership, and other health care professionals and departments.
    • Minimum of two years Pediatric ICU experience preferred.
    • Charge Nurse experience with demonstrated leadership skills required.
    • Holds or obtains a national nursing certification within 2 years of acting in the position
    • Basic computer skills required; EPIC/EMR experience preferred


    Duties and Responsibilites

    • Assists Patient Care Manager in the implementation of unit initiatives, regulatory standards, and quality improvement opportunities
    • Responsible for assisting in staff performance evaluations, scheduling requests, and time and attendance issues
    • Participates in recruitment efforts, interviewing and hiring of clinical support staff and nurses
    • Performs various regulatory and compliance audits
    • Maintains and monitors daily staffing needs
    • Leads and actively participates in both unit and organizational-wide councils
    • Provides patients and family centered care
    • Aides in achieving yearly performance goals based upon the organization’s annual operating plan
    • Completes daily leadership rounding on patients and families
    • Develops and implements strategies to enhance both patient and nursing satisfaction
    • Monitor and address environmental and physical conditions of service areas to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, families and staff
    • Performs charge nurse and bedside RN duties as needed
    • Upholds collective bargaining agreement with nursing and support staff
