    Physician Assistant, Lung Transplant and ECMO, Full-time, On-Call Required, University of Chicago Medicine, Hyde Park, Illinois


    We're hiring a Physician Assistant (PA) who will specialize in Lung Transplant and ECMO at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois!


    Shift / Hours: Shifts will be flexible, focused on coverage of lung transplants and ECMO / acute mechanical circulatory support. Shorter call response time is preferred. 


    The Physician Assistant (PA) is qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services. The ideal candidate holds the knowledge, skills, and judgment necessary to efficiently assist our lung transplant and ECMO programs through organized instruction and supervised practice. The individual in this role will be directly involved with the physicians and surgeons in these programs, and function as a surgical first assistant in the operating room, as well as the ICU and Procedure Rooms.


    Both the lung transplant and ECMO programs at the University of Chicago Medical Center are experiencing growth, and the PA will play a key role in strategic planning and programmatic development. The PA will also aid in the design and implementation of management protocols for lung transplant and ECMO patients. Also in this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in clinical research and attend national meetings.


    Additionally, this licensed health professional will take patient histories, conduct examinations, diagnose illnesses, evaluate patients during the pre-and post-operative phases, as well as order and interpret laboratory tests on a regular basis. The Physician Assistant will be available to offer provision during complicated operations, including but not limited to, lung transplant, ECMO initiations, and other forms of acute mechanical circulatory support.


    The PA exercises autonomy in medical decision-making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. This medical professional has the opportunity to contribute to departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance and safety and environmental control procedures. Through effective communication and collaboration with health care providers, improving patient follow-through is a responsibility you will frontline as a Physician Assistant at the University of Chicago Medical Center. 


    Required Qualifications:


    • Completion of an accredited (physician assistant) educational program required.
    • Two to five years’ experience with surgical procedures preferred
    • Experience using automated IS including but not limited to: keyboards, computer terminals, telephones, battery-operated devices, heat-copying devices, and automated dispensing machines.




    • Certification in ACLS required
    • Certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required
    • Current and/or eligibility for: State of Illinois licensure/registration required
