    Lead Building Engineer

    This is a Local 73 Union position. Posting dates: 1/26/18 – 2/2/18


    Join one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic medical centers, University of Chicago Medicine, in the role of Lead Building Engineer.

    In this role, you will work with Journeyman Carpenters, Painters, Refrigeration Mechanics and Helpers to ensure completion of assigned tasks. In the absence of the Supervisor, you will assign tasks to Building Engineers as well as Helpers and sees that tasks are completed. You will receive calls for service from the Director of Physical Plant, Trades Supervisors, Administrative Assistant and Order Desk staff. You will also give direction to Helpers and new Building Engineers.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Assuming leadership role to continue Hospital standards of care in the absence of the Supervisor.
    • Establishing priorities in the completion of assigned tasks.
    • Inspecting equipment in operational section and assessing the need for maintenance.
    • Performing all duties of the respective Journeyman classification and performing other related duties as assigned.
    • Following through on all assigned duties until completion.
    • Maintaining personal appearance in accordance with departmental policy on dress and uniform.

    Required Qualifications

    • High School Graduate.
    • One year of experience at the journeyman or senior level.
    • Substantial knowledge of the work of the Building Engineers.
    • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writing.
    • Knowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand equipment used on the job.
    • Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds.
    • Must be physically capable of performing the work expected in an efficient manner.
    • Must have knowledge of safety rules, practices and equipment.
    • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work with other people.
    • Must be capable of strenuous physical activity.
