    Join one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic medical centers, University of Chicago Medicine. The Information Systems Department is looking for a top level technical contributor with expertise in related business processes including formulating system scope and objectives that are in line with the organization's business plan and industry requirements.

     

    Job Summary

     

    In this role, the Business Systems Analyst, Specialist (Radiation Oncology) is a top level technical contributor with expertise in related business processes who will be responsible for working with department leadership and IT colleagues in formulating systems scope and objectives.

    • Acts independently or as a member of a project team responsible for providing technical guidance concerning the business implications of the various systems
    • Provides technical consulting on complex projects
    • Creates detailed specifications from which programs will be written
    • May have quality assurance responsibilities

    Job Functions and Responsibilities  

    • Oversees, analyzes, implements, and maintains complex clinical software systems for end users specific to Radiation Oncology. These systems include but are not limited to:
      • Radiation Oncology EMR and Supporting Tools
      • Treatment Delivery Applications
      • Medical Imaging Applications/Tools
      • Digital Dictation and Transcription
      • Physics Applications/Tools (Treatment Planning, QA, etc.)
    • Assumes the system administrator role for the Radiation Oncology EMR
    • Coordinates with IS colleagues the implementation and maintenance of hardware (servers, networking, workstations, and ancillary equipment) necessary to run Radiation Oncology applications
    • Ensures all clinical data, including Protected Health Information, is appropriately protected according to HIPAA. This includes implementation and curation of an appropriate backup process as well as protection from intrusion into the system
    • Plays a leading role in implementation of new clinical applications, and integration of existing applications
    • Ensures that configuration and testing in relation to clinical systems and the supporting workstation environment is complete prior to installation or changes
    • Following IS best practices, coordinates with IS colleagues the implementation and testing of required interfaces Routinely exercises discretion and judgment in daily work by assessing and prioritizing workload, making decisions on how project tasks and service requests will be handled
    • Ensures that clinical system technical processes comply with regulatory and CBIS guidelines
    • Provides consultation and/or subject matter expert advice to management with regards to associated technologies
    • Participates in the development and implementation of workflow processes and procedures that can be effectively supported by Radiation Oncology
    • Assists as necessary in the general troubleshooting applications and medical devices (e.g., Linacs, CT, etc.)
    • Serves as a project resource for Radiation Oncology IT-related projects by attending meetings, consulting with users, making suggestions for solutions in relation to the clinical application environment, and subsequently carrying out any assigned technical tasks related to the projects
    • Responsible for root cause analysis and resolution of workstation and clinical application related issues within the department.
    • Evaluates and effectively prioritizes and/or delegates incoming service requests to be completed in a timely manner
    • Retains ownership and follow through to completion on any service requests, issues or projects assigned
    • Keeps thorough records of any repairs or configuration changes made to critical systems
    • Participates and assists in the development and implementation of departmental policy and procedural changes in relation to process improvement

    Required Qualifications

    • BS or BA degree, computer science or business or equivalent relevant certification in healthcare, business management or information systems is required
    • Experience managing networked servers and workstations with knowledge of TCP/IP network services, system utilities, hardware installation, OS installation, and security patching required.
    • Experienced in leading complex installs over multiple phases
    • Have a full understanding of Design, Build, Testing and Change Control of a large scale implementation
    • Demonstrated expertise within a specialized area of information systems software implementation- for example:

      • Work flow optimization
      • Particular vendor/packaged application expertise
      • Quality control and testing
      • Policy and procedure development
      • Systems analysis/design
      • Integration/design, or web applications/design
    • Experience in business process mapping
    • Experience defining requirements and software development methodologies
    • Ability to correlate between business, functional, and technical requirement
    • Solid understanding of general strategy drivers
    • Detailed industry-specific issues
    • Linkage between user needs and system enablers
    • Strong functional IT, general management consulting, organizational realignment, and business background

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in Radiation Oncology and with Varian Aria OIS is preferred
    • Varian Aria OIS and/or Radiation Oncology IT experience
    • Healthcare-focused operational experience in business, clinical operations, teaching;
    • Familiarity with medical devices and medical equipment systems such as linear accelerators and/or medical imaging devices
    • Experience with HL7, DICOM, standard programming languages, client/webserver administration, enterprise EMRs, SQL Databases, and clinical workflows
    • Expertise with tools and concepts of process improvement is desired, including the following:
      • methods analysis
      • Work sampling
      • Statistical analysis
      • Financial analysis
      • Systems analysis
    • Large-Scale academic medical center experience
    • Certifications obtained through the Microsoft Certified Professional Program, Novell Professional certification program, or any other approved information technology certification preferred

    Other Qualifications

    • Ability to prioritize, organizes, manage multiple and deliver complex projects on time
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts
    • Proven skills in problem solving
    • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor in both normal and pressure situations
