    Oncology Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA), Cancer Service Line, Full Time (1.0) Day Shift 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL 


    UChicago Medicine’s NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center is hiring a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for an oncology rapid assessment clinic (urgent care, symptom management clinic for cancer patients).

    The Advance Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. As an APP, you will manage a caseload of patients and exercise autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation and research. The APP will provide direct primary health care to cancer patients who are experiencing reactions to treatment, side effects of chemotherapy, and acute medical issues including, but not limited to fevers, pulmonary emboli/DVT, hypercalcemia, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, mucositis, fatigue, bowel obstruction, pain, pleural and pericardial effusions, and other urgent cancer treatment related symptoms. The APP will work in the cancer center under the oversight of the hematology oncology APP directors and medical directors.


    Nurse Practitioner (NP) Required Qualifications:

    • Master's of Science in Nursing required
    • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration required
    • Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse's Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
    • Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers



    Physician Assistant (PA) Required Qualifications:

    • Completion of an accredited (Physician Assistant) educational program required
    • Certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required
    • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure/registration required
    • Certification in ACLS required
    • Experience using automated IS including but not limited to: keyboards, computer terminals, telephones, battery-operated devices, heat-copying devices, and automated dispensing machines.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior clinical experience in oncology, emergency department/urgent care, or acute care setting preferred.
