    Pediatric Phlebotomist, Full Time, Rotating Schedule, Chicago, IL.


    We're hiring for a Pediatric Phlebotomist to support UChicago Medicine operations at La Rabida Children’s Hospital in Chicago, IL.  


    The Pediatric Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood at La Rabida Children’s Hospital under minimal supervision.  The phlebotomist will verify orders, generate specimen collection labels, and confirm patient identity prior to specimen collection.   The phlebotomist will draw inpatients, outpatients, and emergency room patients.   The phlebotomist will perform venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise, precision, and in a customer service oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures.  The phlebotomist will prepare collected specimens for courier pick-up which may include centrifugation.  The phlebotomist will order supplies and stock the blood draw area while maintaining a clean, safe, and sterile working environment


    Pediatric Phlebotomist Required Qualifications and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Training in phlebotomy from an accredited program; one-two years of practical experience (preferably with pediatric patient population) with references.
    • Thorough knowledge of asepsis; manual dexterity and accuracy.
    • Demonstrate ability to utilize institutional computer systems.
    • Must be able to work alone and with minimal direct supervision.
    • Demonstrate ability to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare workers.
    • Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and document appropriately, perform in stressful situations; handle complex pediatric patients with compassion while demonstrating superior customer service skills
    • Ability to manage workload within defined timeframes.
    • Ability to stand, stoop, push, lift, walk, and ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment.



    • Phlebotomy certification required
