    Director of Information Systems – Clinical Systems, the Information Systems department, University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL 


    We're hiring a Director of Information Systems – Clinical Systems for our Information Systems (IS) department with the University of Chicago Medicine at our main campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL.

The successful candidate will be professional, energetic and passionate about what he/she does.  He/she will have a proven track record in managing clinical systems groups, in complex, heterogeneous IT environments. The Director will have exceptional management and leadership skills, and have a very strong operational focus, enabling the individual to balance the needs of maintaining and enhancing existing systems and developing the next generation of applications.


    In this role, the Director for IS Clinical Systems Customer Service and Support is responsible to provide best practices in IS application planning, development and maintenance services to all UCH clinical customers or users.  This position is fully responsible for all UCH clinical applications (i.e., those systems that are directly involved in the provision of patient care) and therefore is at the core of the UCH’s mission and responsibility to patients. The Director is responsible for organization, control and management of the IS staff assigned to the Clinical Systems group.

    In addition to operational responsibility for all clinical systems, the Director will also be charged with leading UCH’s planned clinical system transformation.  This will be one of the largest IS programs undertaken by UCH with the goal of upgrading or replacing the major clinical systems over the next two to five years.



    Director of Information Systems – Clinical Systems Education and Experience Requirements: 


    • A BS/BA degree preferably in computer science, software engineering, or business from an accredited academic body is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
    • Must have twelve or more years of hands-on management experience in clinical systems including Radiology, Surgery, Lab, Pharmacy, etc.
    • Must have five or more years in a senior IS management position with responsibility for one or more of the aforementioned areas.
    • Must have direct experience leading clinical applications portfolios for clinical departments such as Radiology, Laboratory and other clinical/medical integrated systems.
    • Must have a strong understanding of clinical application functionality as it relates to a healthcare environment
    • Strong analytical and time management capabilities are required; must have the ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time, as well as the ability to stay focused on key business deliverables.
    • Must collaborate with other leaders across the enterprise to ensure processes and other technical solutions are effectively integrated
    • Must have excellent skills in oral and written communications, leadership, supervision and building interpersonal relationships.
    • Must pay attention to detail and have the ability to organize and delegate tasks and coordinate projects.
    • Must have experience in budgeting and planning for large systems.
    • Must have experience with assembling teams, leading and monitoring overall performance.
