    Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator – Registered Nurse (RN), the Cancer Service Line department, Full Time Days, University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL 

     

    NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center dedicated to clinical brilliance, scientific discovery, and training the nation’s leaders in cancer care is hiring a full-time day shift Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator for the breast cancer program at University of Chicago Medicine’s main campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL.

    In this role, under the direction of our breast program leadership and in collaboration with the care team, the Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator serves as clinical liaison and the single point of contact for patients and coordinates the care of patients as they move from initial diagnosis, through survivorship. They help ensure timely delivery of care and eliminate potential barriers, identify resources, and serve to enhance breast cancer disease management and the patient experience. The Nurse Navigator is responsible for providing education and emotional support to patients and families, in addition to connecting patients with needed community and hospital resources. As an integral member of the breast cancer team, the Nurse Navigator will communicate any pertinent issues related to the patients’ clinical, emotional, spiritual, psychosocial, financial, and other needs to the appropriate clinicians and staff.    

     

    Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator – Registered Nurse (RN) Education and Experience Requirements: 

    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited academic body.
    • Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with a valid, unrestricted Illinois State license.
    • Must have a minimum three years of clinical experience working as an RN in a breast cancer medical, radiation, or surgical oncology or as a patient/nurse navigator for breast cancer.
    • Must have demonstrated clinical competence in patient care, teaching and management of patients with a cancer diagnosis, and knowledge about clinical aspects of breast cancer and it’s prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
    • Must have general computer skills and be adaptable to changing working situations and work assignments.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills are required, with specific ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, and physicians, advanced practice providers, and other members of the clinical and administrative teams.
    • Being certified as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) is preferred; holding the Nurse Navigator Certification (AONN) is preferred.
    • Familiarity of local, state, and national breast cancer awareness, education, outreach, and advocacy programs and organizations is preferred.
