This position is located at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL.
The University of Chicago Care Network is recruiting a Physician Assistant, CT Surgery qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services. The PA position requires the knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the physician / surgeon through organized instruction and supervised practice. This licensed health professional will take patient histories, conduct examinations, diagnose illnesses, pre- and post-operative patient evaluation, order and interpret laboratory tests and assist during complicated operations. The PA exercises autonomy in medical decision making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
The Riverside Center for Heart and Vascular Excellence at Riverside Medical Center provides comprehensive cardiac and vascular services to a five county region. The CV program includes Cardiac Catheterization labs, new high-tech CV operating rooms equipped with a surgical robot and minimally invasive approaches, heart rhythm disorder program, vascular center, valve program, and extensive outreach and market development support.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
*Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards
*Coordinate patient and family education needs with staff, case managers, and Patient Care Manager
*Assist in obtaining informed consent for participation in clinical research trials
*Assist in the in- and out- patient setting in assessing patient health status and needs
*Assist in the in- and out- patient setting in performing specified diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
*Assist the in- and out- patient teams in the development and implementation of comprehensive plans of care
*Follow through in the outpatient setting via communication with appropriate health care providers to assure that proper care and follow-up is provided
*Assist in the collection and appropriate documentation of data required for clinical trial compliance
*Meet daily with team members to discuss individual patient needs
*Function as a professional role model for staff while providing expert nursing care in the in- and out- patient setting
*Promote, have knowledge of and utilize appropriate patient care protocol relating to the physical and psychological needs of adult and geriatric patients in both in- and out- patient setting
*Collaborates with care team members and multi-disciplinary team members to provide direct in- and out- patient care.
*Plan and conduct patient/family conferences to assist in planning care
EDUCATION / CQI
*Participates in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care
*Participates in the development, review, and evaluation of PA procedures
*Assist in the establishment of educational tools and materials for patients. Some may be web-based
*Assist in the development and conduct of CME conferences
*Assist in quality assessment and improvement through participation with established Hospitals’ committees
*Establishes and maintains a collaborative relationship with health care colleagues
*Demonstrates effective use of verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills using strategies that promote problem resolution
*Identifies mechanisms to determine the future direction of the CT Surgery PA role
*Participates in the design and implementation or nursing protocols in the hospitals where relevant to CT Surgery nursing
Education: Completion of an accredited (physician assistant) educational program required.
Licensure: Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for: State of Illinois licensure / registration required
Experience: Minimum of two to five years experience with surgical procedures / surgical training required in: a related clinical area / of related clinical specialties
Other: Experience using automated IS including but not limited to: keyboards, computer terminals, telephones, battery-operated devices, heat-copying devices, and automated dispensing machines
